The Many Men in My Life

TodayI was going through pictures and realizing how truly blessed I am with these wonderful men in my life. Dan is a blessing I don't deserve...he's too good for me...too good to me. His quiet spirit keeps the world from knowing how godly and good and kind and sincere his heart is...but I get to see it on a daily basis and when I count my blessings, he is at the top of my list. Andy (or Andrew as he prefers to be called now) has grown into a fine man who loves with 100% of his being and is making such a wonderful effort to be a "good" man. He has a wonderful wit, is very intelligent, and I'm so very proud to see the results of 26 years of growth finally coming together in a very fine package. Stevie (he'll just always be that to me) has stunned me by being an incredible young father and loving husband. We were talking recently about how differently life was going than originally planned, but both agreed he's just wherehe needs to be and that it may be a struggle now but will be worth it all in the end.

And then there's the grandsons. People probably get tired of me talking about them but they bring so much life to my days. I still hear the doctor's saying, "We have bad news, the baby has Down Syndrome" when Holden was born. How I wish I could tell them what a wonderful, loving, compassionate, giving, smart, active, NORMAL little boy he is.  And I remember spending Orlando's first night with him in a hospital so far from his mom and dad.  He was so little and so delicate and had the biggest dark brown eyes you could get lost in. Now he runs and plays and squeals (words cannot describe this sound) like the best of them. He's a wonderful big brother to his blue-eyed brother who is a flirt and really learning how to wrap me around his fingers these days. And Andy's little guy Luke is one who's loved and adored...just like all his cousins.

So I am surrounded with strong, loving, good, kind, giving, wonderful men...and just want the world to know what a blessing it is to be loved so much and have such wonderfulmen to love each day. Thank You, Lord!!!

  Tonight I met Jesus when Dan and I fed and housed maybe the first truly homeless man I’ve ever met.   I’ve always tried to feed the hungry when I could.   We’ve opened our home to those who had no place to stay for short periods of time.   But we always knew there was hope for housing for anyone who stayed with us. Tonight I met a new Daniel.   There’s so much I learned about him during our brief encounter with him.   In any other time, he would be housed in a home for the mentally ill.   His whole life has been troubled…on psychiatric drugs as a child…on Social Security disability only if he stayed on his prescribed drugs…drugs he said did nothing but make him confused and disabled.   He truly doesn’t understand that he suffers from mental illness. He has an "invisible" friend (or is hallucinating).    He wants to be “accepted”.   He wants to work and take care of a house and be left alone by a world of people he feels are out to just destroy him and make life and living

I've Seen His Glory

This has been another interesting week in South Africa…not so much from the action happening around me, as much as from the action happening IN me.   I found myself compelled to take a stand against the world again this week…and once again discovered that many Christians are washing down the Word of God to take away its power to save.   When we decided that Jesus is just so loving that anything goes…when we decide that to emulate Christ we have to just be sweet and kind and loving and accepting of sin because we might actually offend someone…we emasculate ourselves as Christians.   Jesus’ message in His day was bold.   It went totally against the teaching of the world.   It went totally against the teaching of the church of its time.   It was something so different that people stood in wonder for hours to hear Him preach.   Did He love the people?   With all His heart!   But that did NOT stop Him from pointing out that they were falling short of God’s glory…God’s plan for their

  BOOK REVIEW   INTERCONNECTED By:   Jamie Urquhart Jake seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time as this interesting who-dun-it unfolds.   An innocent stop for breakfast at a roadside diner puts him smack dab in the middle of attempted murder…of a police officer, no less.   And other diners impossibly agree as they point to him as the shooter!   Along comes Officer Kowalski…’Ski to his friends.   Jake and Officer Kowalski will slowly but surely piece together a crime with far-reaching outcomes.   This reader enjoyed the fact that she did NOT guess the ending till the very end.   It always felt as if I were putting together a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces.   I believe that is exactly how the author intended the reader to feel. I have been looking forward to reading this first novel of a friend of mine.   I knew it would be factual, because Jamie has years of experience as an EMT and fire fighter.   At times, the “factual” was too much for this less-experien
